Diagnosing Hamilton CarPlay Issues, 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series

  • Hi, I installed CarPlay in my 2009 Land Cruiser (JBL stereo, rear entertainment screen) and it shows up on display but it's only sorta working.

My connections on mine are different than the diagram you shared for 2009.  I was able to connect the POWER and AUDIO to the top display unit, as well as LVDS.

    I have the following problems:

    1. Screen doesn’t respond to touch, however I hear an audible noise from speakers when I touch screen.
    2. No sound.  I press Disc/Aux but it simply switches to DVD, no other input.  Connected via CarPlay and Bluetooth to Hamilton unit, not connected to factory Bluetooth.
    3. Aspect ratio off on screen: Squished screen not displaying full width (DIP settings were left as they came) Strangely, it did appear full aspect ratio at first, and later changed to this squished format.

  • 2009 LC (JBL w/ Rear Entertainment).  I have the same issue.  No sound through Carplay.  DISC/ AUX button only activates CD player with no AUX option when button pressed.  Vehicle Bluetooth not connected to any devices.  iPhone not connected to any other devices.  Video sent from Hamilton support shows newer model Land Cruiser in demo with AUX/ AV  button in touchscreen display.  BTW, Hamilton Support responded to my email almost immediately.

My Installer noted when installing the unit I ordered for my 2009 that the connections were different from head unit.  Hamilton confirmed that my head unit connections match the 2007-2008 conversion kit and quickly shipped one out.  Customer Service has been amazing, but I still have no sound.  I wonder if the rear entertainment system might be the common denominator?

  • @Ray Gardner Hey Ray I'm in the same boat, Hamilton sent out the replacement unit for 2007-2008 and connections are correct, everything works BUT I'm not able to get sound because DISC AUX button doesn't seem to switch input sources, stays on DVD, I even replaced Aux Input port thinking it might be faulty and thus not show up on radio.  Did you make any progress getting sound to yours since you posted?

  • Here's an example video of pushing DISC AUX button and not seeing input switch sources on 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser (2009)

  • Hi Jared,

You have the 2007-08 version. We sent you a new unit. Your audio wires are not connected correctly.

Please see the supplement for your vehicle linked here

Pay very close attention to the two images in the top right of this pdf. One shows the back of the screen and the other shows the back of the radio. You can send pictures of your unit to me and I will mark them up for you.

There is a port the same size/shape of the Mark Levinson port located on the back of your screen. This is not the correct port.

You have the Mark Levinson port on the back of your radio, connect the corresponding Hamikton connector to this port. Leave your factory Mark Levinson wire disconnected. Also leave those two "A to B Except for Mark Levinson" wires disconnect from Hamilton.

  • I was able to sort it out today, I was confused by the Mark Levinson port, because I have JBL, and had connected "A to B Except for Mark Levinson" and not placed the "Audio for Mark Levinson" into the dark blue port. I changed those two things up and it works, thanks for the help!
